Where are the crappie and perch?
« on: February 08, 2018, 11:44:40 AM »
I fished Little Creek Reservoir on Tuesday and could not find any fish. First time fishing there and wow that place is tough on first timers!
I'm going somewhere tomorrow,  and I NEED to catch something :-\  I was thinking about hitting Chickahominy lake or the Mattaponi near Aylett.
I'm definitely open to suggestions if you guys have found fish anywhere else.
Thanks!

Haven't fished since the 29th, but before that I was finding Crappie, bass n chain picks on North Landing creeks and Muddy Creek (Lotus Garden launch where I even got a few Yellow Perch to 11 inches).    Only fished Little Creek Res a few times and did well on Crappie last early spring, but I do much better in Lake Smith and ill be hitting it soon.

Not a lot of crappie or perch but can be an excellent pickerel ans bass bite at Newport news park sir. Come join us Sunday around 1pm 71 degrees and maybe a couple rain drops but it don't stop us we ain't fair weather fishermen. I know the park well

I ended up fishing Chickahominy Lake yesterday. The water temperature was about 44 degrees.
There were about 10 boats out there not including me and my buddy on kayaks.
We fished from 9 a.m. tell about 2:30 in the afternoon.
Me and my friend both got completely skunked! And out of all the boats I only saw a handful of fish caught.
2 perch and 3 crappie.
I talked to quite a few of the people in boats and of course we should have been there yesterday.
One guy told me he caught over 50 crappie the day before in that same spot.
As far as the perch they're just not there yet. Once the water hits about 52 degrees they should head up that way.
Until then I need to find some new spots to catch crappie.

The reservoir next to my house is packed with crappie, but I could never seem to get a bite when I targeted them. The lake is full of cypress. In the winter, you can find stacks of crappie from the bottom to the surface next to many of the standing trees and on the edges of the drop-offs. I never have trouble finding them. My sonar usually looks like christmas trees when I do.

I fished the Chickahominy River on Sunday 2/18 and managed to catch Yellow Perch, Crappie, and Rockfish. I witnessed a few large Bowfin and Catfish caught also. I kept a few for dinner.
