I'm getting good results with an 18v cordless drill battery.

Hmm thats an intersting idea i havent thought of. how do you connect to the battery/ waterproof it?

Female crimp-on "disconnects" fit on my DeWalt battery after a little widening with a screw driver. I have an older 18v NiCad battery that I'm not super worried about but I do keep it in a $9.99 waterproof box from Harbor Freight. If you really want to do it right, brush epoxy on the seams of the battery itself and it would be about as waterproof as anything.
